It’s officially December! The wind is colder, the streets are livelier and of course, food everywhere! This should be the happiest and most relaxing month for everyone. But girls… what if your monthly visitor decides to show up during these holidays? Ugh. Bummer, I know. That’s why we are here to give you a tip or two to make the most of your short break!

Is the feast on your table tempting you? If no one still hasn’t told you, what you eat can affect the symptoms you experience during menstruation! It can either make you feel better or worsen your abdominal cramps, headache, nausea, fatigue, bloating, mood swings and diarrhea. And because we want you to have your well-deserved short vacay, here are the lists of what food you should eat and, as hard as it is, avoid:


Drinking water should become a habit! Aside from what thousands of influencers have said that it makes our skin look healthy and glowing, water decreases the chance of having dehydration headaches that can occur during your period. Fruits can also be rich in water! Heavy menstruation makes you lose lots of iron along with the blood so it is better to eat iron-rich food to avoid having body pain, dizziness and fatigue.

According to a 2012 study, Omega-3s can help reduce the menstrual pain and aid people who experience mood swings and depression. Curcumin, which is the main ingredient of an anti-inflammatory spice, may lessen the symptoms of your premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Some studies in 2010 and 2015 also found that magnesium can lower the severity of PMS symptoms. Now, it’s safe to say that our cravings for chocolate during red days is allowed BUT only if it’s dark flavored! Probiotic-rich food is also highly-suggested because it can help you fight yeast infection by providing good bacteria around your vagina.
